Carpet Cleaning FAQs

How long will my carpet take to dry?

At the completion of steam cleaning, the carpet will be dry to the touch. This is achieved only by our unique method of cleaning, which enables us to extract up to 90% of the moisture back, leaving the carpet to dry within hours, not days.

Can I walk on the carpet as soon as it has been cleaned?

Yes! We do, however, recommend that you allow a reasonable amount of time before putting it back into full use, as this will limit the amount of dirt that may stick to the small amounts of residual moisture in the carpet. On request we can provide you with shoe/feet covers to minimise this risk.

What is the difference between Steam Cleaning (hot water extraction) and Dry Cleaning (bonnet)?

Hot water extraction or steam cleaning works by injecting hot cleaning solution into the carpet fibres and then extracting the same. Used in conjunction with pre-conditioning, this method allows us reach the roots of the carpet, and suspend the dirt and soil from the fibres, making them easier to remove. The heat also allows oils and grease to be to be loosened in a similar manner.

Dry, or Bonnet cleaning involves the application of a cleaning solution onto the carpet, which is then agitated onto its surface by a specially designed pad in a rotary motion. Injection and extraction is not used.

What is the best way to maintain the carpet or upholstery after has been cleaned?

Regular vacuuming is recommended at least once a week; a greater frequency is required for heavy traffic areas.

A foot mat should be placed at every entry point onto carpeted areas. Our technicians will assist you on the best placement points and vacuuming techniques at no extra cost.

How often should I have my  carpet cleaned in residential premises?

Carpet manufactures recommend the cleaning of carpets should be carried out once every 12 months, however in homes with children, pets or more traffic, steam cleaning should be done more regularly to preserve the life of the carpet.

How often should I have my carpet cleaned in commercial premises?

For a cleaner and healthier environment for you and your staff, it is recommended that carpets and upholstery be cleaned at least every 3-6 months. Our technicians are able to assist you in putting a maintenance program in place to maintain a clean environment all year round.

Why does the carpet get re-soiled so quickly  after it’s been cleaned?

There are a number of contributing factors that may lead to re-soiling soon after cleaning, such as:

  • Incorrect cleaning methods applied by non-qualified technicians. They may use the wrong solutions (high pH levels), inferior equipment, or fail to rinse solutions, leaving chemical residues.
  • An inexperienced carpet cleaner may not properly dry your carpets. This can be caused by the technician failing to give the carpets the proper final drying pass with the cleaning wand or not having strong enough equipment (using portables may also cause over-wetting). Over-wetting occurs when too much water soaks into the bottom of the carpet.

How do I choose the right carpet cleaning company out of a crowd?

The best carpet cleaning companies are those that have been certified by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification, or IICRC. A carpet cleaner cannot buy this certification – they must earn it. Along with certification, integrity, honesty and a passion for their work are other key points to focus on when questioning your chosen cleaner over the phone.

Does carpet/fabric protector really work? When is the best time to apply it?

Yes, carpet and fabric protectors do work. They are best applied straight after a proper, thorough steam cleaning. This must be carried out by a qualified technician who can advise you on the correct type of protection suited to your carpets, upholsteries, fibre types, and lifestyle.
